Abor: Dela Gati needy support project fetes 150 Kids.

The Dela Gati Needy Support Project (DENSUP), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Ghana and Spain has organized its annual New Year party for more than one hundred and fifty (150) children and their families at Abor in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region. 

The NGO also supported close to four hundred (400) residents of Gefia in the Akatsi South Municipality with several bales of used clothing, all aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the beneficiary pupils and the citizens of these two (2) communities in the year 2024.

The two (2) events formed part of the annual activities of the NGO which has, since 2019, been supporting several communities, school children as well as individuals and institutions across the Volta Region with items ranging from educational scholarships and materials, used clothing and the provision of mechanized boreholes, to the supply of hospital equipment and medical items.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NGO, Mr. Dela Gati who is based in Spain, was accompanied by some Executive Officers of the NGO like Ms. Precious Nyatepe Badu (Executive Director), Messrs Kafui Badu and Edem Kofi Klu as well as Mr. Samuel Kwami, Chief Advisor and tutor at the Mawuko Girls’ Senior High School, Ho who chaired the events.

Also present was Mr. Clement Ansah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Keta Municipal National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Mr. Ansah has been of immense help to the NGO since its inception some four (4) years ago.

At Gefia for instance, DENSUP donated more than five (5) bales of used clothing to the community members. The beneficiaries present at the brief but impressive event were close to four (400) including children, all of whom were overwhelmed by the quantum and quality of dresses presented to them. Before the team could step out of the community and the donation center, the distribution turned into a free-for-all exercise which some persons later described as the survival of the fittest.

An elder of the community, Rev. Alex Awagah who received the donation on behalf of the community, was grateful to the NGO and its leaders for the gesture and prayed for further support in the coming years.

He lamented that the major problem facing the community is the issue of water, explaining that the only borehole in the community is not enough for the community with a population of about one thousand (1,000) residents. Rev. Awagah used the occasion to appeal to the NGO to come to the aid of the Gefia community.

At Agbome-Abor, the NGO feted more than one hundred and fifty (150) children and their families at its New Year party. Apart from enjoying packs of jollof rice, all the children were given biscuits and small packs of frutelli soft drinks. Their parents, numbering more than fifty (50) also received canned drinks in addition to one pack each of one (1) kilogram of sugar. The children were also treated to both spinning and brass band music to put smiles on their faces and those of their parents and guardians.

A spokesperson for the NGO, Mr. Edem Kofi Klu told our news team in an interview that the gesture was the beginning of bigger things to come.

According to him, the initiative was aimed among other things at positively impacting the lives of individuals including school children, institutions as well as communities, and the citizens at large.

Mr. Klu disclosed that since 2019, DENSUP has donated educational items and materials such as writing boards, tables and chairs, reading books and computers as well as toys to the Abor E. P. and Havene D.A. Basic Schools. Some children at the Abor E. P. Primary and Junior High Schools (JHSs) are also on scholarship in the name of the NGO.

According to Mr. Klu, the Abor Senior High School (ABORSCO) and the Sacred Heart Hospital (SHH) at Weme-Abor have also not been left out. While ABORSCO has been supported with items such as a microscope, tables, and chairs, desktop computers as well as sanitary pads for the girls, the SHH received toys for its children’s ward as well as an x-ray machine to improve upon its quality services to clients in the catchment area.

Mr. Klu announced further that Adrakpo-Asilevikope has benefited from a mechanized borehole and used clothing from DENSUP. Other communities that got used clothing, toys, and other items, he said included Sasieme, Heluvi, and Gefia, adding that the NGO would extend its humanitarian services to the other parts of the region as well as the Oti Region where its jurisdiction covers or extends to.

'In My Father’s House’, a charity home at Abor, received items such as tomato paste, biscuits, and water from the NGO while the Abor Police Station was gifted several mattresses and blankets last year for use by the inmates. 

He called on parents and guardians to take proper care of their children, emphasizing the need to concentrate on their education, health, and discipline to enable them not only to realize their life dreams but also to become responsible citizens for society and the nation at large.

The Special Advisor to the NGO and Chairman of the function, Mr. Samuel Kwami described the gesture and initiative of DENSUP as laudable and overwhelming and lauded the CEO and his team for the great vision to touch lives in the Volta and Oti Regions. 

He urged the people of Abor and the citizens across the region to support the NGO to be able to impact more lives in the two regions in the coming months and years.
