'I will focus on Job creation and responsible leadership' - Leonard Nyakpo


Mr. Leonard Kwabla Nyakpo, a parliamentary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Ketu North Constituency of the Volta Region has outlined his vision and policies on Education, Health, Agriculture and Job creation for the youth and women.
Speaking to our newsteam in an exclusive interview at the constituency capital at Dzodze, Mr. Nyakpo said his aim is to introduce and implement policies that would inure to the benefit of the people.  
In the Education sector for instance, he promised to set up a scholarship scheme and an education fund for students including supporting at least ten (10) best needy but brilliant students from each zone annually. 
Mr. Nyakpo also promised to facilitate domestic and foreign scholarships for brilliant but needy students within the Ketu North constituency.
Other provisions, the Parliamentary Hopeful said, would be to institute Best Teacher Awards for teachers within the constituency and also sponsor the printing of mock examination question papers for final year students in both basic and second cycle schools within the constituency.
As part of his policies, Mr. Nyakpo promised to upgrade CHPS compounds to health center status and set up more health facilities within the various political zones.
He also promised to take up life insurance policies for all party executives, covering prolonged health conditions, permanent disability and death, equally ensuring a comprehensive annual medical screening for all party members in the constituency.

He would also prioritize the creation of an enabling environment for artisans, carpenters, plumbers, steel benders, tailors, seamstresses, hairdressers and other professionals 
"This initiative will engage branch executives as well as constituents who are artisans, electricians and tailors among others to execute projects in the constituency", Mr. Nyakpo emphasized.
Another vision he outlined is in the area of enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the constituency by providing opportunities for the youth to engage in skills training and personal development.
Mr. Nyakpo stated that he would implement policies in the Agricultural sector that would contribute to increasing the yields of farmers in the constituency.
"I will set up more Agricultural Extension offices within the municipality in collaboration with the Ministry of Food & Agriculture (MOFA) to augment the services of the municipal agricultural office. My team will also provide farmers with farm equipments to enhance their work as proud farmers', Mr. Nyakpo intimated.
As a Chartered Accountant, Mr. Leonard Nyakpo promised to ensure the establishment of a credit union for all branches which would later be transformed into a community bank that will source cheap funds for businessmen, traders, farmers including all other artisans in the constituency.

He also intends to partner with other stakeholders in setting up an agro-processing factory that would process various food crops such as cassava, maize and rice among others into other finished products to enable all and sundry in the value chain derive the needed benefits from their sacrifices and investment.

"Clearly, mobilizing funds within our communities coupled with support from the national government, donor agencies as well as international funding institutions, will enable us address most of our challenges in order to build the future we want for ourselves and the future generations to come', the Parliamentary Hopeful pointed out.

The first time parliamentary aspirant appealed to the delegates to vote massively for him and former President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections.

Leonard Kwabla Nyakpo is number eight (8) on the ballot paper.
