NDC MP endorses Nana Akufo-Addo's excuse for economic hardships
Sunday, September 4, 2022
The NDC member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey last Friday endorsed the COVID-19 excuse given by Government for the recent economic hardship unleashed on the citizenry by Nana Addo's administration while speaking on Sand City Radio in Keta.
The MP was answering questions posed to him by the host as to why he has been unable to fulfill most of his promises made to the delegates, especially the acquisition of 10 taxi cabs for the NDC members by the end of 2019 if elected as parliamentary candidate.
In his response, the Member of Parliament said the COVID-19 pandemic has brought severe economic hardship to the world hence his inability to redeem the promises.
The NDC as a party in recent times has vehemently lambasted the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP government for citing the global pandemic as the cause of their inability to deliver on their mandate. Similarly the NPP has blamed the excruciating hardship in the country on the COVID 19 pandemic.
It is therefore surprising that the Keta legislator would give those same answers as given by the NPP on a radio platform owned by the Regional Chairman of the NPP. This action is seen by many as a betrayal of his party's position on the Nana Akufo-Addo's administration.
When konkonsahgh.com spoke to a section of his constituents, it emerged from the commentaries gathered that the masses were not happy with the sudden crafty posture towards them and Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey's denial of his own campaign promises.
Some are beginning to form the impression that his campaign promises were based on deceit and untested ideas.
" Hon. Gakpey promised to buy the 10 Kia Morning cars before the end of 2019. The first COVID-19 case was recorded in the world on the 31st of December 2019 and the pandemic broke out in 2020, I felt betrayed and insulted when I heard Gakpey on radio the last time saying the pandemic was his reason for not delivering on the emphatic promise he gave with a deadline of end of 2019” one of the displeased constituents said.
Prior to the NDC'S 2019 primaries elections, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey made an array of lofty promises including the establishment of fish processing plant at Keta, establishment of commercial sweet potato farm and its processing plant, lemongrass farms and it's processing plant in the Shime areas of his constituency etc.
In recent times, the Member of Parliament has come under heavy criticism from his constituents on his ineffectiveness in manning the developmental agenda in the Keta Constituency.
