Saturday, September 24, 2022
President of the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA), Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asare has assured all, that the Senior national Men’s Cricket Team can make it to the IC Men’s Cricket World Cup If they plan well.
Speaking to the media at the VIP Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport after receiving the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy on Thursday, September 22, Emmanuel Asare noted, that the turf wicket construction for the African Games next year, will enhance performance of the players.
“Everything is a process. I think there is enough justification to show that at least we are good enough and that if we are able to plan again very well, within the shortest possible time, we will bounce back and over take all these nations. I wish to more or less bring to your notice that we have never had the opportunity of even having a turf wicket in Ghana, but this opportunity for the 2023 Games has now given us the hope for us to be able to build upon the previous performance of the team.
“But prior to that one, although we have been playing on concrete for over a century, we are able to hold ourselves and go back to the countries where there are turf wickets and beat them. So, this gives us the hope that all is not lost but then we are on the right path and we need to shore up whatever activities that we are doing.” He concluded.
Australia will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from October 16, to November 13, 2022, with 16 countries participating but without Ghana.
Ghana, crushed out on the qualification after losing to Uganda (qualified) from the sub regional Africa qualifiers in October last year.
Ghana would have made a step closer to Crickets highest tournament, after a 5-match winning streak against host Rwanda, Seychelles, Lesotho, Malawi and Swaziland.
Asare, was in the company of the Hon Minister of Youth & Sports, Mustapha Yusif, Evans Bobie (Dep Minister of Youth & Sports), Ben Nunoo Mensah (GOC President), Henry Benjamin Ackom, Francis Ayikai Okai and Vinod Punnackal (GCA Board members) as well as Shomeresh Shetty, ICC Marketing and Promotions Manager on the arrival of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy.
The Trophy departs Ghana on Saturday, September 24, 2022 after touring parts of Accra.
As Ghana prepares for the Accra 2023, the trophy tour in Accra is to generate and whip up interest of Ghanaians as Cricket for the first time will be part of the 14th African Games. Namibia (a qualified team in the World Cup) was the only African country the trophy has toured before Ghana.
West Indies (most successful) and the United States are billed to host the 2024 edition (9th) of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with 20 participants and Ghana, could be there.
