BIDO GH, UNICEF in collaboration with NNEKA YOUTH FOUNDATION train Teen mothers in cassava flour ptocessing.


75 adolescent girls and teen mothers drawn from 15 communities in 3 districts in the VoltaRegion,; Afadzato South District, Central Tongu and Akatsi North have been trained in  processing cassava into flour to produce a variety of cassava-based recipes including chips, doughnuts, and other pastries.

The 4 day training is aimed at addressing  Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) Education and Rights, by giving the young women Business and Life Skills training to help them have alternative ways of getting money to meet their basic needs.

The founder of NNEKA Youth Foundation, Mrs Fiaka Cecilia said their foundation and BIDO Ghana are working hard to bring adolescent girls and young mothers out of poverty and to become self reliant. 

Mr. Sulemana Abdul Karim, Executive Director of BIDO Ghana said the training will add value to the lives of the young women by empowering them to seek alternative livelihoods that would help reduce school dropout rate and unwanted pregnancy.

The Social and Behavior Change Officer for UNICEF GHANA, Mrs Nikoi Charity said, income flow for the youth in the rural areas is a major problem. She said this program will help keep the youth busy and also bring them income to take care of themselves and abstain from sexual activities.

She said the team would keep an eye on these young women to  ensure they make good use of what they have learnt to help solve the challenges they may face.

The enthusiasm with which the participants embraced the program, Mikel Worlator Cophy and Madam Alice Appah, the program Facilitators are positive that the trainees would put into practice what they have been taught .
