NDC elections: Disqualified branch aspirants in Anlo Constituency vow to seek redress.
Thursday, August 4, 2022
It was not a nice scene to behold yesterday at the Anlo Constituency office of the member of Parliament as some disgruntled NDC branch aspirants clad in red shirts and armbands to meet the appeal committee for what they described as arbitrary and unjust disqualification meted out to them by some constituency executives on the vetting panel.
About 50 branch aspirants were reported to have been disqualified in Monday and Tuesday's vetting held across the constituency on the basis of: over age, disloyalty to the party etc. Most affected wards include: Dzita -Anyanui,Tegbi and Woe.
The Appeal committee sensing danger, cleared about 40 aspirants to go and contest for the various positions they have filed for, majority being aspirants from the Dzita -Anyanui ward where the constituency Organiser was the lead vetting panel member.
According some of the aspirants the basis for their disqualification was ungrounded and unnecessary as they see it as a means devised by some of the current constituency executives on the vetting committee to prevent them from contesting in other to allow their favorites to rather contest in some of the Branches.
A disgruntled aspirant who spoke to the media under the conditions of anonymity alleged that the Anlo constituency chairman, Rolex Agbey Miheso, who was part of the vetting committee at Woe and also a member of the Rhema branch of the NDC have scared members from contesting apart from his family members without recourse to the party's constitution and guidelines. To worsen the issue, he cleared and insisted one Sebastian Dogbey, a known card bearing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to become the chairman for Light House branch Woe. The chairman verbally assault and threatened to disqualified aspirants who tried to draw his attention to his absurd decisions.
In another screwy instance, the constituency chairman disqualified two eligible aspirants at Woe Aklorbordzi branch of the NDC just to pave way for his nephew to contest for the branch chairmanship slot unopposed.
The actions of some of the constituency executives, especially, the Chairman, Rolex Agbey Miheso and his Organiser, Brass Dedzo who are all seeking re-elections in the yet to be announced constituency elections date, is a clear dent on the party's reorganization process as the disqualified aspirants are bent on using any legitimate means to seek redress.
