Japanese Designer Issey Miyake dies of cancer.


Issey Miyake, known for his fashion industry as the prince of pleats and for his innovative cuts and bold style, died of cancer. He was 84.
According to the Associated Press, his studio, Miyake Design Office, announced Tuesday that he died on Aug. 5 of liver cancer.

The pioneering designer, who rose to prominence in the 1970s shortly after establishing his studio, was best known for his wrinkle-free origami-style pleated clothing and for creating Apple founder Steve Jobs' signature black turtlenecks.

According to NHK, Japan's public broadcaster, a family funeral has taken place and there will be no further public events in accordance with Miyake's wishes.
