South Tongu: Residents of Akpafleto and it's environs calls on Government to fix their road and water issues.

Residents of Akpafleto and its surrounding communities in the South Tongu district of the Volta Region are appealing to government to fix their road, culvert and water problems that continue to bedevil them for several years. According to them, their plight as citizens has been worsened by the current economic hardships facing Ghanaians.
Akpafleto is one of the remote farming communities in the Akpafleto-Anasukope-Morkordze Electoral Area of the South Tongu district.
The community together with some of its sister towns like Anasukope and Morkordze do not only have poor roads but also face acute water challenges throughout the year and particularly in the dry season.
Residents fetch their water from an old dam constructed by themselves for several decades. Apart from describing their ground water as Lipton tea water, residents say they are also compelled to buy river water in the ‘kufuor’ gallons from Sokpoe at the cost of Two Ghana Cedis (Ghc2.00) per gallon, a situation that is taking a toll on their health and finances.
Speaking to our newsteam, spokespersons of the community, Mary and Thomas Kuenyehia lamented about the death-trapped state of their only culvert linking their community and the entire Electoral Area from the main junction on the Accra-Aflao highway.

The road in question forms part of the almost six (6) kilometer Akpafleto Junction-Dzebenu-Sokpoe-Agbeve feeder road which is also one of the major foodstuffs routes in the district.

The residents told our newsteam that their plight has been worsened by the country’s current economic crisis, lamenting that they continue to wonder if they are not part of Ghana. Mr. Kuenyehia therefore appealed to government to urgently fix their challenges.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Wisdom Mensah Kobena Woyome has visited the area and the community to assess the situation. According to him, government is aware of the poor road challenges facing the inhabitants of these communities and described the neglect or inaction of government on these roads as unfortunate.

He used the opportunity to assure the people that a future NDC government would come to their aid as has always been the situation.
Hon. Woyome donated two (2) bundles of roofing sheets to the Akpafleto community towards the roofing of their community center shed meant for use for meetings and other related activities. The donation was in response to an appeal the community made to the MP early this year to assist them in this regard.

The MP was hopeful that when completed, it would go a long way to enhance unity and community ties among the citizenry.
Receiving the donation, a Spokesperson for the community, Mr. Thomas Kuenyehia was grateful to the MP for the gesture. He expressed the hope that other challenges facing the community would also receive the needed attention from government sooner than later.
