Kojo Oppong Nkrumah pays visit to RTI commission.


The Minister of Information and Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah earlier today, 7th June, 2022 paid a working visit to the Right to Information Commission ( "The Commission") to ascertain thus far, the implementation of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989).
The Commission, led by its chairman, Justice (Rtd) K. A. Ofori-Atta, welcomed the Minister while the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Yaw Sarpong Boateng Esq., briefed the Minister on some of the successes so far by the Commission since its establishment such as organising mass education in some Regional capitals for Heads of Institutions, Students, the media and the public. He continued that the Commission so far has received complaints from applicants who were not satisfied with the decisions of the institutions they applied for information. The Commission has resolved quite a number of them and is still in the process of addressing the ones that are currently before it. He further reiterated that the draft Regulations meant for the passage into Legislative Instrument (L.I) will aid the Commission to do more for the success of the implementation of Act 989.

Mr. Yaw Sarpong Boateng indicated that the Commission, in its quest to be flexible and not make things too complex has made a non-lawyer as the head of the Commission's tribunal so that the Commission can settle cases using Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
The Minister was enthused with the work done by the Commission and pledged his support to make the Commission's work easier.

The Board and management took the Minister around the office premises of the Commission to see the various departments and units.
The Minister was accompanied by Dr. Nafisa Mahama Head of Access To Information(ATI) Division and other staff of the Information Ministry.
