Christian NGO donates food to Saviefe Gbedome residents

Word Dew Foundation, a Christian Non-Governmental Organisation, has donated food and other life essentials to the remote community of Saviefe Gbedome.

The farming community of about 1,000 population is located miles off the Matse township of the Ho Municipality raising food crops among the forest vegetation.
Prophet Daniel Ameko, the Founder of the Organisation, said help had been planned for the community right before the Covid outbreak, but was hampered by the pandemic.

He said the timing was, however, right as the world economy affected livelihoods and that the organisation had maintained contact with the community.

Community members received food items, clothes, and PPEs, with priority on the aged, widowed, and the vulnerable.

The Founder said he had been inspired by the childhood neglect and suffering, and considered philanthropy a “God-given task”, and, therefore, the organisation’s efforts would be sustained to help reach out to many.

“I have met several villages suffering – Bad water, lack of health facilitates and other challenges,” he said, and mentioned plans to provide continuous support for orphans and the aged.

Members of the Organisation shared the Christian faith with the community, and donated scriptures.

Mr William Nyabade, the public relations officer of the Foundation, said the exercise was the first it had undertaken since it was formed in 2022, and that it was made possible through the efforts of several individuals, including those from the diaspora.

He said they hoped to increase the donation and expand the scope of support to include more sustainable projects.

“We are hoping to provide community projects such as boreholes, classrooms etc, and we need support from CSOs and corporate society,” Mr Nyabade stated.

Madam Elizabeth Bansah, the Secretary to the Association, said the neglect of the aged by their children remained a disturbing phenomenon and many were retiring into bad living conditions, and needed support.

Togbe Hormeku Amegavi II, the Chief of the Community, said they had no health centre and lacked school infrastructure and appealed to the organisation for help.

Word Dew Foundation announced plans to establish a youth development group in the community, and who would be supported to acquire education and skills to propel the community’s development.
