Nigeria's former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has advised Nigerians to hold the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), responsible for anything that may happen to Christians and churches in Sokoto State.
Sokoto State had plunged into chaos on Saturday after a protest turned violent.
The protesters had demanded the release of the suspected killers of student, Deborah Yakubu, who was lynched over alleged blasphemy.
A 24-hour curfew has been imposed by the governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
However, there are reports that churches were been torched by rioters.
Reacting the former presidential candidate took to Twitter to declare that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Buhari, should be blamed for the brewing carnage.
She said, "Here’s the thing. The individual with ABSOLUTE ACCOUNTABILITY for anything done to Churches and Christians in Sokoto is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces #DefenceInfoNG #HQNigerianArmy #PoliceNG and DSS.
"The world and citizens of Nigeria are watching, #MBuhari."
In a separate tweet, she questioned the statement released by Buhari on Friday condemning the killing of Yakubu.
She said, "If #NGRPresident #MBuhari released a statement on the brutal murder of #DeborahSamuel and failed to send a STRONG SIGNAL to her killers of decisive PROSECUTION, what message do you think he conveyed to those burning churches and seeking kill for religion in Sokoto today? Think."
