Bono,Bono East and Ahafo Regions bid PRO farewell.


The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Prisons Commands have organised a farewell ceremony in honour of their Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons, (DSP) Johann Nii Narh Nartey as he bows out of active service after serving in the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS) for 29 years, nine months and two days.
It was all joy at the Sunyani Central Prison Canteen where colleagues, (both Senior and Junior Officers), as well civilian friends from various institutions gathered on Thursday morning to bid the outgoing Regional PRO farewell. 

Delivering a short exhortation at the brief ceremony, Reverend Richmond Opoku of the CCI, Sunyani, entreated all officers of the GPS to find pleasure in the work they do as it is the gift of God.
" When a man finds satisfaction in what he does, he doesn't quit, he rests just as God rested on the 7th day of creation", he observed.
He commended members of the security services for their role in protection of lives and property in the country.

All the speakers during the occasion were unanimous in their verdict that DSP Nartey, was a dedicated and committed officer.

The Regional minister, Hon. Justina Awo Owusu-Banahene in her remarks commended DSP Nartey for the efficient manner in which he performed his duties.

DSP Nartey represented the GPS in various capacities at the municipal assembly. Notable among them was his membership of the Sunyani Municipal Security Committee. 

He also served as the Deputy Commader of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly/Traditional Council Joint COVID-19 Task Force Team 1 (one)and later became the Commader of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly COVID-19 Task Force Team 2 (Two).
The Regional Minister therefore urged officers and men of the Sunyani Central Prison to emulate the shinning example exhibited by DSP Nartey, particularly in the Sunyani Municipality and the various places he served. 
For the the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ansu Kumi , DSP Nartey's exit would create a huge vaccum that would be difficult to fill, adding that the doors of the municipal assembly would remain open to him for his inputs.

The Regional Prisons Commander, DDP Bob-Dery, on his part, was full of praises for DSP Nartey for his commitment and dedication as a prison officer and wished him well in all his endeavours in his retirement. 

Also present at the ceremony were Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Kenyasi Camp Prison, Assistant Director of Prisons(ADP) Andrews Osei, OIC of Duayaw Nkwanta Camp Prison, ADP Foster Appiah, 2IC of Sunyani Central Prison, ADP Samuel Fiifi Dontoh, OIC of Sunyani Female Prison, Supt. Mary Asante-Sarpong( Mrs.), retired senior officers and traditional rulers.

Profile 

Affectionately called Pilolo, a corrupted name he acquired from his duty as a PRO, DSP Nartey was enlisted into the GPS on November 28, 1992 and passed out in July 1993.
He was posted to the Kenyasi Settlement Camp Prison as a General Duty Officer and while serving his probation, he was made the Chief Clerk till he was transferred to the Sunyani Central Prison on January 4, 1996.

While in Sunyani, he served as an Assistant Chief Clerk and a typist until August 28, 2000 when he was transferred to the Tamale Central Prison.
At Tamale, DSP Nartey served as a Chief Clerk until 2007 when he was transferred to the Senior Correctional Centre in Accra.

Then a Sergeant, he served for only four months and was transferred to the Public Relations Unit at the Headquarters of the GPS.
While he was at the Headquarters, he was sponsored to study Public Relations Management at the Diploma level at the Institute of Professional Studies, Legon, in 2008.

In 2008, DSP Nartey, was appointed as the Junior Officers' Representative on the Ghana Prisons Service Council where he served till 2014.
DSP Nartey passed the Cadet entrance examination in May, 2015 and entered the Prisons Officers' Training School where he was commissioned on November, 27, 2015.
He was posted to the Senior Correctional Centre as the Deputy Greater Accra Regional PRO where he served briefly before being transferred to the Sunyani Central Prison in September, 2016.
By dint of hard work, diligence and commitment to duty, he was again promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Prisons on September 1, 2018, a rank he held until his retirement from the Service.
