The Ghana Senior Women’s Cricket Team have lost their second match at the ongoing Access Bank Women’s T20 Invitational tournament on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.
Ghana, after losing their opening match against Rwanda on Monday, went into the Sierra Leone match with a tough mentality and determination, but for the fall of wickets in the second innings.
Sierra Leone, with a record of 2 wins against Ghana won toss and opted to bat first. The Lady Cricket Patriots scored 45/0 in 5 overs and Ghana reduced the run rate as at the 10th over, they made 80/1. A further restriction from saw Sierra Leone at 103/1 but finished it off pretty good, with 136/2.
Ghana in the second innings 4 wickets falling within the 5th over, with scores at 12 runs. It got worse, as at the 10th over, 3 more wickets fell with 38 runs on the score board. A that stage, it looked very impossible for Ghana, as they were all out for 49 runs in 12.5 overs.
Sierra Leone won the game by 87 runs and are now 3rd on the table with 2 points, behind Rwanda (2 points) and host Nigeria, with 4 points. Sierra Leone’s Mabinty Kings was given a guard of honor for being the second player to score half a century *59(63).
Ghana’s captain Rhyda Amanfo Ofori tells TalksenseSports, they will come good.
“It has been bad for us and not a good result at all. We are working around the clock and we will definitely bring smiles to the faces of all Ghanaians. It hasn’t been easy here but we will come good, we will come back stronger.”
Nigeria who defeated Sierra Leone yesterday, needed 1.5 overs to Gambia by 10 wickets, after scoring 21 runs in the second innings to surpass Gambia’s 20/10 in 10.1 overs.
Ghana is back to the TBS to face Gambia tomorrow, March 30, 222 at 1:50pm local time (12:50 GH Time). The rare Queens will hope for the first victory and fight for a place in the top, as they play Nigeria on Friday.
