Sunday, November 7, 2021
The Keta Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel GEMEGAH, has assured the people of Keta, Kedzikope and Abutiakope of the commitment of the Municipal Assembly to ensure the protection of lives and livelihoods in the communities affected by tidal waves in the Keta Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive together with the Municipal Engineer and personnel of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) toured the affected communities on Sunday 7th November, 2021 to ascertain at first hand, the extent of devastation caused by the tidal waves.
A number of households and individuals have been affected by this year's waves, mainly dislodging residential facilities, fishing accoutrement, livestock among other valuables.
Even though the ravages of tidal waves are not new to the Keta coastline, the damage this year has been phenomenal, disrupting major economic activities, affecting women, children and other vulnerable people in these communities.
Hon. Emmanuel Gemegah in a brief remark, indicated to the affected people that, though there were initial attempts by successive political administrations to bring an end to the perennial challenge, there is still a lot to do; and assures the people of his personal commitment to ensure all efforts are harnessed to bring safety and comfort to the affected areas. He emphasised that, he will seriously engage NADMO to provide shelter and other forms of support to the affected individuals.
"I must also say, our doors are opened to philanthropists who may be willing to support us in rescuing the affected people" he stated.
