Ho: Kekeli Radio to cough over 12k as legal, compensation fees to former Employee

Kekeli Radio has agreed to pay a total of Nine Thousand Two Hundred cedis (GHc9,200.00) and Three Thousand Ghana cedis (GHc 3,000.00) to Kingsley Atitsogbui, the plaintiff and former staff of the radio station as salary arrears and compensation due the Plaintiff respectively.

The media organisation which is operating in the Volta regional capital, Ho, is expected to pay the total of Twelve Thousand Two Hundred Ghana cedis (GHc12, 200.00) through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) secretariat, Ho to the plaintiff.

In a letter from the Ho Court-Connected Alternative Dispute Resolution (CCADR) mediated by Martin Edu, an agreement was reached to pay all the monies by Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

In January this year, Mr. Atitsogbui Kingsley took a legal action against his former media organization, Kekeli Radio in Ho, over a claim of non-payment of salary arrears and unlawful termination of his appointment.

In the copy of writ of summon sighted by ignewss.com, the plaintiff, Atitsogbui Kingsley prayed the Ho District Magistrate Court for an order of payment of an amount of GHc11,200.00 being arrears of salary owed him by the Defendant (Kekeli Radio) with effect from 2016.

He also demanded an interest on the amount, an order for the payment of adequate compensation for the unlawful termination of appointment of him by the media organisation, cost and any other relief that the court deems fit and appropriate.

In a summary of subject matter of claim, Mr. Atitsogbui stated that, he was employed by Kekeli Radio on February 1, 2016 as a News Reporter and a Presenter per his appointment letter which he discharged duties efficiently and effectively until he was issued with a letter terminating his appointment with effect from December 1, 2019.

He said, the Defendant (Kekeli Radio) had earlier on made them to re-apply and he did so and re-applied for same positions but he was not given any notice before the termination of his appointment neither was he compensated for the termination of his appointment by the defendant.

Mr. Atitsogbui stated that, matter was earlier reported to both CHRAJ and the Legal Aid Commissions respectively in Ho for amicable and peaceful settlement, but the Defendant (Kekeli Radio) proved uncooperative hence the necessity for the case to be sent to court.

Having finally gone through the mediation process and the enquiries for settlement of the case, both parties have also agreed to resolved their differences as they have understood each other and decide to live at peace

However, after the decision from the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Kekeli Radio (Defendant) has agreed to pay a total of GHc 12,200.00 to the Plaintiff (Kingsley Atitsogbui).

While with the former employer and defendant, Mr Atitsogbui through his hard work, won the Ghana Journalist award as Best Reporter for Sanitation in 2018.

In the year 2021, he also won the Private Universities Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) Best SRC PRO of the year and Ho municipal NASPA awards as Media personality of the year and currently brands himself as a good Corporate Governance advocate.
