HO: "SUPPORT YOUR OWN”, PRESIDENT OF EPUC APPEALS TO THE E. P. CHURCH

The President of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Prof. Edem Kwasi Bakah graced the 11th Synod of the Ho-East Presbytery of the E. P. Church at Mawuli Estates, Ho. In his address as the Guest Speaker, he related the theme of the Synod Revive Us Again, O Lord to his investiture address delivered 26th March, 2021 titled This is the time. In that speech, he stated that that if there was ever a time for the University College to get back on its feet and become a giant among universities in Ghana and beyond, that time is now.
According to Prof. Bakah, the theme suggests that the Church has acknowledged where it went wrong and has decided to seek the face of God for revival and for a new direction. In his opinion, the Church does not only have the men and women to intercede on its behalf to cause the spiritual revival needed but it is equally endowed with a very rich human capital that can turn around the fortunes of the Church. “That human capital, is here and in the other presbyteries, just waiting impatiently for the Church leadership to lead the way and they will follow. But I also wish to humbly submit to that critical human capital, that if the Church leadership fails, they have to rise up and get involved in the change they want to see. The revival is now or never”, he stated.

He added that for God to grant the request of the Church for revival, members of the Church must show remorse for what went wrong, learn to forgive one another and initiate a healing process that will lead to a true reconciliation.

Also, Prof. Bakah stressed that for the Church to be revived, it will not only come from God, but also from human beings and organisations. “We need to forge new partnerships and mend broken ones. Mending broken ones means repenting from the old ways; may be our partners realised that certain funds were misapplied or not adequately and properly accounted for or we didn’t honour certain contractual obligations. There is a need for us to put on new clothes and the time is now or never”.

Turning his attention to the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, the President urged participants to support their wards and children to have their university education at EPUC. “We must consume what we produce. We must not run away from it”, he remarked. In that regard, he encouraged the congregation and individual members of the Church to provide scholarships for church members to pursue diploma and degree programmes at EPUC. “I can assure you that if the Church provides scholarships for at least 100 members of the Church to attend EPUC each year, the University College will immediately bounce back”, he stated. Prof. Bakah promised to visit the individual congregations to have a conversation with them on matters affecting the University College with the view of seeking their support.
