DZODZE URBAN HOLDS EMERGENCY MEETING WITH DZODZE WATER AND SANITATION DEVELOPMENT BOARD.
Saturday, May 29, 2021
Pursuant to Section 21 and 14 of the District Assemblies Model Bye-Laws for the Establishment and Operations of Water and Sanitation Development Boards, 2008 the Chairman of the Dzodze Urban Council (DUC) cum Assembly member for Ablorme Electoral Area, Hon. Christian Tornyo, convened an emergency meeting which was held in the Dzodze Urban Council Hall on Thursday 27th May, 2021 to deliberate on the *"state of affairs"* of the Dzodze Water and Sanitation Development Board (DWSDB).
After the opening prayer was said, Hon. Christian Tornyo(DUC Chairman) addressed the council as to the purpose for which the meeting was convened and subsequently opened the floor by permitting the Dzodze Water and Development (DWSDB) chairman, in the person of Mr. Abofrah Christian, to take the first bite.
Mr. Abofrah, in his address to the council, complained bitterly about the monies the government owes his outfit as a result of the *free water supply* to almost 2000 people within Dzodze and its environs during the COVID-19 pandemic thus making it impossible for Water and Sanitation Development Board (DWSDB) to live up to its financial obligations.
According to him, per their assessment the government owes them more than Ghc 500,000.00. He however said a team came from the regional level to do their own assessment of the water system and as a consequence decided to pay an amount of Ghc 425,000.00 only instead of Ghc 500,000.00 plus as claimed by DWSDB. Mr. Abofrah asserted that he was taken aback as he couldn't fathom out the reason why several attempt to collect the money owed them by the government proved ineffectual.
For expeditious recovery of the money (Ghc 425,000.00) that the government agreed to pay DWSDB, the Council constituted a *Seven-Member Committee* to facilitate the process. The committee members include Torgbui Dzoku V, Torgbui Avorkliya V, Mama Anyitsorgbe II, Hon. Christian Quaku Tornyo, Mr. Christian Abofrah, Hon. Pope Yao Yevoo and Hon. James Tessu Galeagbelime.
The committee was given a period of two weeks to carry out their assignment and give account to that effect to the good people of Dzodze. This, from the perspective of the Council, would help the good people of Dzodze to unveil the mystery surrounding the delay of payment and enabling the good people of Dzodze to take the necessary steps to collect the said amount of money as quickly as possible.
In his closing remark, the DUC Chairman(Hon. Christian Tornyo) said he has a strong belief that this unanimous decision taken by the Council would not only yield positive result but also ensure that the good people of Dzodze have access to adequate and sustainable supply of portable water in Dzodze and its environs.
