ACCRA: DANGER LOOMS AS OSU RESIDENTS EAT BY CHOCKED GUTTER

Health danger looms as residents of Osu-Danquah are exposed to potential contaminated food. The residents say they fear for their lives should there be an outbreak of any disease.

The public’s fear comes at the back of calls on the La-Dadekotopong Muniicipal Assembly (LaDMA) to cover the main drainage that runs along the Osu-Danquah highway. The gutter also sits just below the main public food canteen in Osu.

The situation is an eyesore as one could visibly see into the messy chocked gutter across their eating tables, coupled with dozens of flies and tummy-wrenching stench that troops in from the gutter.

Speaking to some residents who regularly patronize the place, one Rosa said: “because of how this place is, some of us cannot eat here so we buy and send it home.” Another patron, Isaac Kumi, said: “I usually buy from here. Some of us don’t have any choice, than to eat here so we manage it like that. But the day there will be cholera outbreak or something dierr, we are dead.”

They are therefore calling on the Assembly to “cover the drain before the worse happens” to them.

Meanwhile, speaking to the Assembly member for the Cantoments Electoral Area, Alhaji Basiru Mahama, he assured residents that he has “been in talks with the Assembly’s works department and they promise to fix it as soon as possible.”
