In Ghana, girls experience a whole range of problems often because of discriminatory practices. A number of other problems affect the Adolescent and have a much more negative impact on females. These include;
Child Marriage, School Dropout, Early Childbearing, Unsafe Abortion, Substance and Drug abuse, Malnutrition, Sexually Transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS, Emotional and physical abuse, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Negative or Harmful Cultural Practices and death among others.
The Mama Awotsu Adzagba II Foundation is aimed at promoting gender issues in development through gender mainstreaming, and also to address social problems in our rural communities and the nation as a whole, through radio programs, communities and school outreaches and on social media.
In line with the activities of the Foundation, The Foundation collaborated with UNFPA and organized a two day ADOLESCENT GIRLS DIALOGUE ON ASRH, SGBV AND HARMFUL CULTURAL PRACTICES from 1st October to 2nd October 2020, which was held in two Districts in the Volta region of Ghana. In Ahlepedo electoral area (Asafotsi) at Akasti south district, Kpohe also in the Akatsi south district and Anyako in the Keta district.
we had about 550 community members present at the two District programme but it was only 250 Adolescent girls that benefited from the programme and took home one Dignity kit each.
