Burial date for Late Sogakope Assemblyman set.

Earlier last month, the Opinion Leader for Sogakope released a statement on the latest development of the murder of Hon. Marcus Mawutor Adzahli an Assembly man of Sogakope South murdered at his residence in cold blood.

In the statement, Mr. Maxwell Lukutor made mention of the set day the family of the late Assembly man have set to lay him to rest. He again hinted that 22nd May, 2020 is likely to be the day the family of the late Mr. Marcus Mawutor Adzahli shall lay him to rest. This he said will depend on review of the ban on public gathering.

If you missed the statement release by the Opinion Leader last month on the Update of the late Mr. Marcus Mawutor Adzahli, find it below.

MURDER OF HON. MARCUS MAWUTOR ADZAHLI- UPDATE

“If we believe that murder is wrong and not admissible in our society, then it has to be wrong for everyone, not just individuals but governments as well.”

~ Helen Prejean

Exactly one month today, Hon. Marcus Mawutor Adzahli was gruesomely murdered in front of his nuclear family.

This death shook the entire South Tongu District and caused a lot of ripples in Sogakope in particular and the world at large. It attracted all powerful state men and left a lot of questions in the minds of people.

There were reactions from citizens on the inaction of the police and the seeming complexity from the police especially about the response time.

As we Speak, about Ten (10) suspects were arrested from different locations including those that were widely publicized (arrested from a hideout in Kasoa) in direct connection with this murder. We understand some confessed to the committal of the robbery and murder.

Out of the several people arrested and after screening, five (5) were sent to the Dabala Magistrate court and remanded in police custody.

Most of these arrests were made on tip offs from the citizens of Sogakope probably because of the ransome placed on the head of the criminals by numerous stakeholders including Former President Flt Lt JJ Rawlings.

We congratulate everyone for the show of love and their quest to rid society of evil men.

We also commend the team of investigators for a good job so far.

It’s very important to note that, as part of rifle assigned to Sogakope Police Station in the Volta Region which citizens believe was missing before the murder was allegedly found in Sapeiman near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region under bizarre circumstances. This revelation was in sharp contrast to the reports by DISEC that the missing gun was just a prank by another police officer on the Officer in charge who allegedly slept on duty. The world is interested in knowing the truth behind this two stories.

We would like to seek answers the following pertinent questions:

Where are the two Police officers who were arrested in connection with the missing rifle?

Are they on interdiction?

Is it the same rifle that was allegedly found in Sapeiman?

If yes, how did it get there?

If no, has it been found?

Is this standard practice?

It was also alleged that it was the same rifle that was used in committing the crime.

How true is it? According to the DCE, who is the chairman of DISEC, that the Coroner’s report indicated that the cartridge found in the body of the late Assembly Member was a BB cartridge. Which report is he quoting from since the family has no such detailed report?

How sure are we that same institution being indicted for negligence will give a report that will further implicate their own.

Mr President, we call for an independent investigation and autopsy since the family was not even granted the privilege of observing the process of postmortem at the Police Hospital.

In another instance a suspect who stole from a shop in town and was caught on CCTV camera, was reported and later apprehended by citizens for another robbery. He was sent to the police station and was recognized as one who was caught on camera earlier. This evidence was being used for processing by the police to convict him. Unfortunately for the 2 policemen who were escorting him to his residence for a search and fortunately for the suspect, he escaped with the handcuffs at his back and has still not been caught till now after several publication in the media. Mr IGP what is your take on this?

As you cry for the chick you cry for the hawk as well.

Mr IGP what is the definition of a Division in police language?

Comparing Sogakope to other Divisions I realized we are no where close to the status of a Division in your parlance.

There are no Vehicles, no guns to shoot, no active response team, no patrol team and no bullet proof vests and no pepper sprays. There are only men in uniform with name tags parading our streets. We call for a complete overhaul of the Sogakope Division of the Police as a matter of urgency and priority. This we believe will empower them to be apt in their performance of duty.

As we remember our Assemblyman in pain on this occasion, we sincerely call on the Ghana Police Service to expedite the investigation and bring the murderers to book.

We again call on the Police Authorities to quickly kick start the necessary protocols to effect mass transfer of police personnel out of the district, especially those who have served seven (7) years or more.

There are reports that some Officers are still giving information to some bad boys in town which is startling the investigation process. The citizens have lost confidence in these officers and the earlier they are transferred the better.

For instance, nine days after Hon. Adzahli’s murder, a couple who are both teachers were attacked at Agorkpo Newtown and we are yet to hear anything from the police. It is as though the police stationed at Sogakope has thrown Police accountability to the dogs.

Nothing much has also been heard about the criminals who attacked the mobile money vendor who was attacked at Tefle Tademe a month before the murder of Mawutor.

There is also no protection for the immediate family of the murdered Assembly Member and no psychological therapy has been offered this far.

The family is also not let in on happenings so far with investigation and attempts to seek information is also not been responded to promptly. Update on happenings will give some comfort to the family as they plan laying the body to rest possibly on the 22nd of May 2020 depending on review of ban on public gathering at the instance of the Corona virus pandemic.

Finally, we are still calling on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, in this trying moments of the Covid 19 pandemic, not to forget about the happenings in Sogakope and to do just what is right by listening to the voice of the people of Sogakope and do the needful in the face of the lackadaisical, ineffective and abysmal performance by leadership in the District.

They have resorted to using personal attacks and intimidation on anyone who dares critique them . We cannot be intimidated because our own lives including theirs is at stake.

We wish to once again assure the Police service and Government that this case will not be allowed to die a natural death like others but we shall ensure that Justice is served in this case and the most recent similar cases.

As citizens the surest way forward to enhancing security in the District is the use of Community Watchdog Committees. We await direction from the police command for the formation and operation of same. There are already volunteers awaiting to be recruited into such Committees. We assure them of our continues collaboration to make our community crime free.

We remain citizens and not spectators.
