GRNMA Volta-Oti Regional Branch supports Nurse Makafui Josephine Amenyaglo with GHC 20,000.00

On the 27th February, 2020 at about 12:00 noon, Two Regional Council Members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) from the Volta-Oti Region, joined by Mr. Micheal Narh (District Chairman for GRNMA Korlebu District) visited Sister Makafui Josephine Amenyaglo, a nurse in a critical condition at the moment.

Single mother of 7 years old son Makafui Josephine, is a trained nurse in service, but due to sickness, she has been in the hospital almost every time battling with a diagnosis of Benign Intracranial Hypertension for the past 5 years now. Benign Intracranial Hypertension (BIH) is a disease if the brain and is characterised by increase of pressure in the brain without any evidence of any brain pathology. She has experienced minor surgeries on some part of her body. Makafui Josephine needs to get her surgery done to keep her alive and healthy.

This news has kept the GRNMA Volta-Oti Regional Branch very anxious to get members of the Association on board to help contribute to save a colleague of the Noble Profession.

Mr. Michael Narh, who lead the guests introduced them (the Volta Regional Council delegates) to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of the facility, Mrs Elizabeth Noah. The delegates were received warmly by the CNO who took time to listen to their mission. The delegates were introduced as; Mr. Peter Soka, the Chairman for the Akatsi District GRNMA who is the Assistant Secretary (Elect) for the Volta-Oti Regional Branch of the Association and Mr. Isaiah Tilley, the Chairman of the Biakoye District GRNMA.
Mr Peter Soka disclosed;

"About two month ago our colleague informed the association about her ill health and needed financial support to help her out of her present critical condition. The leadership of Volta-Oti Regional Branch sent information across for voluntary contributions to be made by nurses and midwives in every District and Zones of the Volta-Oti Region. After summing up the voluntary contributions, an amount of GHC 20, 000.00 was realized. Our purpose of coming here today is to make a presentation of the amount realized to our Sister to help support her medical care."

He added; "the leadership of GRNMA in the Volta-Oti Region wants to use this opportunity to call on government to support Nurses and Midwives who falls sick while in active service. This is because, per our condition of service our employer is supposed to take 50% of our medical bills in case we fall sick and got attended to medically. This condition only appears on paper and never adhered to by facility managers. At the end of the day, Nurses and Midwives pay their own Medical Bills (which mostly are beyond the NHIS)."

He finally called on all Nurses and Midwives in all the Regions of the Country to unite and have one strong Association in order to push for what is rightfully ours from the government. Division won't help. "Only unity will do that", he concluded.

In the Chief Nursing Officer's response, she was overwhelmed by the surprised visit from the Volta-Oti Regional GRNMA Council Members who represented to make the donation.

"This is a good news that people must hear", she said, thanking and blessing all Nurses and Midwives who have given out to their own colleague.

The presentation of GHC 20,000.00 was made to Sister Josephine Makafui Amenyaglo and her family who were extremely grateful for the kind gesture they never expected.

The whole nursing fraternity korlebu says thank you very much Volta-Oti Nurses and Midwives.
