OVER 50 NSPs IN SOUTH TONGU DISTRICT REPOSTED WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT .
Thursday, February 13, 2020
The newly trained teachers who are doing their national service in South Tongu District of the Volta region were reposted to new schools to continue their services without their consent even though they are in their second month of the service and others who started their national service in September, 2019.
These NSPs have pleaded with the Director of Education, South Tongu District to allow them stay in their current places but all these pleas did not yield any results.
In a very haughty manner, the District Director of Education for South Tongu, Mrs Evlyn Araba Zentey. told the NSP that they are service personnel and must therefore endure whatever hardship that comes with the service. She intimated that they should be ready to serve anywhere they are only Service persons.
The concerns of these NSPs are not because they have been reposted but rather that they:
1. Have paid for rents in their current places with even some paying for 2-years advance and their landlords and landladies are not willing to pay their remaining balance to them which means these NSPs would have to go vomit fresh money for rent at their new places.
2. Some have spent a lot of money on renovations in the rented rooms in just about a month, they are asked to move to a new station.
3. Some are pregnant
4. Some are nursing mothers and some even have relatives who are with them as babysitters.
5. Those who started in September, 2019 are only left with 6 months to be done with their service.
All these stresses are the reasons why these NSPs are adamant on leaving their current to the new stations.
We call on all the stake holders, from the Executive Director of the Scheme through to the Regional Director and to the District Director to reconsider this decision as it will have dire financial, physical and psychological consequences on the affected NSP.
