Teacher trainees who are doing their mandatory National Service will be posted if they passed their Licensure exams by the Ghana Education Service in September 2019.
This statement was made by the Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh At the 11th annual Congregation ceremony of the St. Monica’s College of Education, Mampong-Ashanti on Saturday 20th July ,2019.
In His speech, He spoke on the importance of introducing the four year Bachelor of Education(B.Ed) programs in various colleges of education in the Country. He said "the new B.Ed curriculum has developed in line with the National Teachers’ Standards (NTS) and National Teacher Education Curriculum Framework (NTECF).
These two documents were approved by cabinet in September 2017. “One of the key features is level specialism so that, after a common first year to build a foundation as a beginning teacher, student teachers can choose to specialise in EARLY CHILDHOOD, PRIMARY or JHS. This is a change from the Diploma system where most student teachers qualified with a general qualification whilst a limited number qualified with Early Childhood specialism” he added.
The new curriculum also emphasises the provision and acquisition of core skills and competencies, including critical thinking, creativity and problem solving.
He also commissioned four-storey lecture Hall.
